He was at Westcliff High School for Boys, as I was, as were several others who have made their mark in this world. We were both "working the Golden Mile" along Southend's seafront when we were both around 17. He joked then that he would be a window cleaner. On Saturday nights, we looked at where live music was, and went there. The Paramounts played at one of these on FA Cup Final night (1962?). It was a pleasure to have been there; where he played Poison Ivy with such his iconic presentation. He had to play it twice - as an encore
